Levine was also named Sexiest Man Alive by Homeless Weekly

HOLLYWOOD–People Magazine is being lauded by members of the LGBT community following the announcement of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine as 2013’s Sexiest Man Alive.

“It’s a powerful statement,” says transgender activist Bamby Salcedo, “To declare that a man doesn’t have to possess male genitalia to be sexy.  It is a great day for the transgender community when the world’s sexiest man doesn’t even have a penis.”

Levine, who was born Sara Rebecca Abeles, entered show business at an early age.  Adopting the stage name, Sara Gilbert, he was cast in the now-classic sitcom, Roseanne.  It was during this time that Levine became confused about his sexuality, eventually forming the alternative punk rock outfit, Danger Pussy, which served as an outlet through which he expressed his frustration.

“Music saved my life,” Levine says, “I had entered a deep depression, not knowing who or what I was.  But the harder I rocked, the better I felt about myself.  That’s one reason why I continue to rock so hard today.”

Levine, still known as Gilbert, left Roseanne in 1997 and began undergoing testosterone treatments, while opting to forgo any actual surgery.

“I have an unusually large clitoris,” he explains, “Large enough that it can pass for a tiny penis.  I was ready to start anew.”

Danger Pussy changed its name to Maroon 5 and Sara Gilbert became Adam Levine.  In the ensuing years, Levine has become an international heartthrob, continuing to front Maroon 5 and serving as a judge on the NBC hit singing competition, The Voice.

From time to time Levine has taken off the makeup and returned to television as actress Sara Gilbert, recently launching his own daytime talk show, The Talk.  But he always knows deep down, he’s just a man with female genitalia.

“I love my life, and I’m comfortable with my sexuality,” he says, “I’m a shining example that it’s possible to be an incredibly sexy man without having a penis.”
